A breast reconstruction can be performed with foreign material (implant or expander) or your own tissue (microsurgical free flap or lipofilling).

BREAST IMPLANT

The breast can be reconstructed with a breast implant. An implant has a well-defined volume and specific shape. The challenge in an implant-based breast reconstruction is tissue coverage. The implant needs to be covered with tissue to achieve a natural result. For this reason most implants are positioned behind the pectoral muscle (retropectoral position).
