Lipofilling

Lipofilling or fat grafting is a minimal invasive procedure. Liposuction removes fat tissue which is purified and reinjected elsewhere. It can be used to augment tissues or to improve tissue quality.

Plastic surgery restores the shape of the body

Plastic Surgery shapes the tissues of the human body. The Greek word “plastikē” means "the art of remodelling". A plastic surgeon mobilises and manipulates tissues. A tissue that is frequently used is fat tissue and it is one of the most important tissues in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Fat or adipose tissue is a "first class tissue surrogate" to heal or reconstruct damaged or diseased tissues. The use of fat tissue in a reconstructive or aesthetic procedure often bypasses the use of foreign material such as breast implants.

Filip Stillaert, MD, PhD

Dr Filip Stillaert is a plastic surgeon at the University Hospital in Gent, Belgium. His vision is based on the cornerstone principle in plastic surgery "replace like with like": lost tissue should be replaced by a lookalike tissue. Adipose tissue or fat tissue is mother nature's first choice of filler. Dr Filip Stillaert performed research in adipose tissue engineering and obtained a PhD "Doctor in Health Sciences" with his research work entitled "Adipose Tissue Engineering: A Journey towards Clinical Applications".

Prof. Dr. Van Landuyt

Prof. Dr. Koenraad Van Landuyt is a plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon at the University Hospital of Ghent and the AZ Sint-Lucas also in Ghent. His area of interest and specialization includes reconstructive microsurgery, breast reconstruction and lymphatic surgery for the treatment of lymphedema.
